Mayor Weir completes 2018 Listening Tour
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – City of Independence Mayor Eileen Weir has completed her 2018 Listening Tour through which she met with 22 local groups between February and October. These public events allowed citizens to ask any and all questions related to the City.
“Over the last year, I have met with dozens of citizens and listened to their concerns,” Mayor Weir said. “No questions were off limits or screened during the tour, and that made the conversations all the more important. These interactions have helped me prepare my recommendations for the coming year’s City budget, and I look forward to continuing the dialogue with my council colleagues.”
The main issues that came up during the Listening Tour included code enforcement, economic development, public safety and the City budget.
“Independence for All, our strategic plan, encourages the City to find new ways to communicate and engage with our citizens – this tour did just that,” Mayor Weir said. “As we look to year three of the plan, we know that quality is a key focus area for our City. By continuing our work to reduce blight and increase the perception of safety, we will focus on the concerns citizens raised. I want everyone to know that this isn’t a one-time conversation though. We continue to look toward the future, and our citizens are a vital component of that success.”
