Melesa Johnson is a passionate advocate for justice, community safety, and transformative change. Melesa began her legal career in 2014 as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, where she was named Rookie of the Year. She most recently served as Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’ Director of Public Safety and managed key violence prevention initiatives.
Melesa’s commitment to service extends beyond her profession. She has held leadership roles on numerous community boards, including the KIPP Academy School Board and the Englewood Arts Board, and has served with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City. Her efforts have earned her several accolades, including the Missouri Lawyers Weekly Up & Coming Award and Ink Magazine’s 30 Under 30 recognition.
As prosecutor, Melesa is steadfast in her mission to create a safer, more equitable Jackson County by addressing systemic challenges, empowering communities, and fostering justice that is both fair and restorative.
