Free event features health information, screenings, and activities for kids
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (June 9, 2016) — Saint Luke’s East Hospital will host its annual Community Health Festival on Saturday, June 25, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The festival, which will take place on the hospital’s campus at 100 N.E. Saint Luke’s Blvd. in Lee’s Summit, will offer free health screenings such as cholesterol and Hepatitis C (while supplies last), blood glucose, blood pressure, and heel bone density.
Hospital departments and community organizations will set-up booths at the festival, providing information on a variety of health topics. Members of the community will also have the hands-on opportunity to try out their skills performing robotic surgery with the hospital’s da Vinci® Surgical System.
In past years, the most popular event for kids has been the mini-hospital, where children can go through miniature departments of the hospital including admitting, the emergency room, surgery and more. Children receive an admitting wristband, fake stitches, “perform surgery”, and enjoy other hands-on activities that mimic a real hospital.
Children can also enjoy face painting, ride a train, work out with real NFL cheerleaders and enjoy a visit from the Lee’s Summit Fire Department.
Other activities for adults and children will include a photo booth area and car seat safety checks.
“We have a responsibility to be proactive in creating a healthy community and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Ron Baker, Saint Luke’s East Hospital CEO. “We’re excited to offer these free screenings to local residents, along with important information about local services available to them. And if we can offer all this while also providing a family-friendly and fun Saturday morning for their kids and grandkids, then it’s a win/win for everyone.”
Admittance to the Community Health Festival is free. For more information, call Saint Luke’s Concierge at 816-932-5100.
