After a break during covid, the annual Community Exchange trip is back on and headed to West Des Moines, Iowa on April 13th and 14th.
Thursday, April 13th
8:00 am Bus departs Independence
11:00 am Independence Chamber group arrives at City Hall
11:15 am Welcome by Mayor Trimble and Chamber CEO and President, Katherine Herrington
11:30 am Working lunch in the Council Chambers
11:45 am Presentation of an overview of the City and the City-School Campus
12:00 pm Presentation by Director of Engineering Services, Brian Hemesath, on the conduit project
12:15 pm Presentation on the ACP & PCs4People program
12:30 pm Presentation by WDMCSD Supt. Matt Adams, on the schools workforce training programs
12:45 pm Presentation by Waukee CSD, Michelle Hill, on the APEX program
1:00 pm Presentation by Parks and Rec. Director, Ryan Penning, on the Five-Waters Project
1:15 pm Tour by Ryan Penning of the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater and Art on the Campus Exhibits
1:45 pm Board bus for driving tour of West Des Moines including
- Westtown Parkway Office Corridor
- Medical Main Street
- Jordan Creek Towncenter area
- Grand Experience area
3:30 pm Driving tour of West Des Moines including Veterans Parkway and Data Center Corridor
4:45 pm Check into hotel
5:30 pm Iowa Cubs game vs Omaha Stormchasers (includes ticket and dinner)
Friday, April 14th
8:15 am Presentation on the Historic WDM Housing Fund, and Historic WDM Master Plan Update
8:30 am Arrive in Railroad Park and deboard bus for walking tour
8:40 am Welcome by Foundation Executive Director Steve Frevert
9:00 am Walking tour of 5th Street Historic Business District with stops/tours at Historic City Hall
10:30 am Tour group can shop
12:00 pm Board bus and depart to The Foundry and the Hall.
12:05 pm Tour of Foundry Distilling and The Hall (Group will be divided into two groups for the tours.)
1:00 pm Lunch at The Hall
2:00 pm Bus departs The Hall for Independence
4:45 pm Arrive in Independence

Fees/Admission
All registrations include bus transportation, Thursday lunch, Iowa Cubs game including food, and hotel accommodations.
