Standing Committees
Academies of the Independence School District (ISD)
To help obtain business partners for multiple Academies of ISD events; i.e. career fairs, jamborees, job shadowing for teachers and students, and speakers for the classroom. Meetings vary Time commitment- As needed for different events throughout the year Committee is open to all business partners
Ambassadors Committee
Ambassadors help promote the Chamber, support chamber functions and work to retain and build membership. Projecting a positive image, assisting with volunteer roles at events, and reaching out to retain members along with recruiting new members are among the primary activities of an Ambassador. Examples of Ambassador tasks include: calling or visiting with new and prospective members, inviting members to events, greeting attendees at events, and table hosts at luncheons. Meets second Tuesday of the month, 9am Time commitment- Attend one-hour monthly meeting, approximately 3 hours attending events per month, approximately 3 hours calling and follow-ups with current/prospective members per month. Committee is open to join year-round
Annual Awards Banquet Committee
Responsibilities: Helping to plan a formal event celebrating and highlighting the leadership of the business community in the betterment of Independence and Eastern Jackson County – Schedule determined by the subcommittee
Golf Classic Committee
Plan and execute the Golf Classic. Including Event day activities and logistics, Food/Beverage, 50/50 Raffle, Gifts, Games/Contests, Volunteer coordinator, promote, sell sponsorships, obtain Players, Execute tournament day. Meetings start in March and vary until the event is complete in June. Time commitment:: Attend hour long meetings bi-weekly April-June, approximately 2 hours making calls to obtain sponsors, goodie bag donations, teams & working event day. Committee established in March.
Halloween Parade Committee
Plan and execute the Halloween Parade that has been a staple for the city of Independence for over sixty years. Help bolster the Chamber’s Members name recognition throughout the city. Promote, sell “Boo Buddy” sponsorships, obtain and coordinate volunteers. Meetings start in August and vary until the event is complete in October Time commitment- Attend one-hour monthly meetings August & September, weekly meetings in October & Working event day Committee is established in August
Healthcare Committee
To educate Chamber members and community members, students and the media, on healthcare related issue as well as what resources are available in our community for healthcare. We will do our part to educate, advocate and support our members and citizens on healthcare related topics. Meets monthly Time commitment- Attend one-hour monthly meetings & as needed for projects throughout the year Committee is open to join year-round
Independence Business Showcase Committee
Responsibilities: Planning and executing a showcase for local businesses to display and promote their products and/or services to the broader community at one convenient location – Schedule determined by the subcommittee
Independence Civic Council (ICC)
Community leaders who are members of the Chamber of Commerce invest $500 per year to support selected local initiatives that benefit Independence. Meets upon the direction of the Chairman when a community member’s proposal is deemed appropriate to present. Following a presentation, the proposal and any request for endorsement or support are discussed and decisions are made during a vote by those present. Meets upon the direction of the Chairman Time commitment- As needed Committee is open to join year-round with $500 yearly investment
L.E.A.D. Independence
Help in recruiting new participants, plan and execute the retreat and graduation, and be a liaison for specific LEAD groups. Meetings vary dependent on time of year Time commitment- Attending meetings as needed and help on LEAD days Committee is open to all members that have graduated the LEAD program
iN Biz Resource Committee
To assist businesses members with programs and resources to enhance success. Help plan/organize the yearly Business Showcase event and monthly Speaker Series. Meets the forth Tuesday of the month, 8:00 am Time commitment- Attend one-hour monthly meeting & as needed for other projects throughout the year. Committee is open to join year-round
Marketing Committee
Focuses on communicating the value and activities of the Chamber consistently, effectively and efficiently to foster growth and expansion of both the Chamber and the business community. Meets the thrid Friday of the month, 9:30 am Time commitment- Attend one-hour monthly meeting & as needed for other projects throughout the year. Committee is open to join year-round
Public Policy Committee
Ensures dialogue with local, state and federal elected officials. Creates a forum for Chamber members with an interest in legislative action supporting their businesses. This committee recommends a slate of legislative priorities to the Board of Directors who vote in support of an annual legislative agenda reflecting the membership. The committee plans monthly Legislative Briefings with State and Federal Representatives and co-sponsors the Eggs and Issues Breakfast with Legislators and the State of the Schools luncheon. Meets first Monday of the month, 3:30pm Time commitment- Attending one-hour meeting monthly & as needed for other projects throughout the year Committee is open to join year-round
Santa Cali Gon Days Festival (SCG) Committee
Plan and Execute the largest and oldest street festival in Jackson County. Meets third Thursday of the month, 5:30 pm. Weekly in August Time commitment- Attending two-hour meeting monthly until August. Longer weekly meetings in August, Commitment to working Labor Day Weekend including festival set up on Thursday Committee assignments are currently filled. Seeking volunteers for a variety of assignments during the festival (August/September).

NOTE: Appointments to Chamber Committees are for a term ending on December 31, 2019. Committee members must be an owner, manager, or employee of a member business/organization. All committee notices and agenda packets will be distributed via email.
