CENTERPOINT MEDICAL CENTER LAUNCHES $23 MILLION PATIENT CARE EXPANSION

New eighth-floor buildout will add 36 medical/surgical telemetry beds to meet growing community needs.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — (June 10, 2026) — Centerpoint Medical Center — part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider — earlier this week celebrated the kickoff of a $23 million expansion project that will add 36 new medical/surgical telemetry beds on the hospital's unfinished eighth floor.

Hospital leaders, physicians and colleagues gathered to commemorate the project, which represents Centerpoint Medical Center's continued investment in expanding access to healthcare services for residents of Eastern Jackson County and surrounding communities.

When Centerpoint Medical Center opened its North Tower in 2017, the eighth floor was intentionally left unfinished to accommodate future growth. As the healthcare needs of the community have continued to expand, Centerpoint Medical Center is now moving forward with plans to complete the space and add 36 new medical/surgical telemetry beds.

The expansion is the latest in a series of investments designed to strengthen healthcare access and services in the region. In September 2025, Centerpoint Medical Center opened the ER of Independence, expanding access to 24/7 emergency services for residents of Eastern Jackson County. The ER integrates advanced emergency services with Centerpoint Medical Center and HCA Midwest Health’s broader network.

Together, these projects reflect Centerpoint Medical Center's continued commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of a growing community and ensuring patients have access to high-quality care close to home.

"When the North Tower was built in 2017, completing the eighth floor was part of the long-term vision for our campus," said Centerpoint Medical Center CEO Patrick Rafferty. "Today, we're taking the next step by adding 36 inpatient beds to help meet the growing healthcare needs of our community while continuing our investment in the future of healthcare in Eastern Jackson County.
