Tom Lesnak Announces Retirement as President/CEO
INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Independence Chamber of Commerce announces with gratitude and bittersweet emotions the upcoming retirement of Tom Lesnak, President/CEO, effective July 1, 2025. Over the past 18 years, Tom has been a steadfast leader, driving economic growth and fostering community connections in Independence. His dedication and vision have left an indelible mark on the city and its business community.
Tom joined the Independence community in 2007 as President of the Independence Economic Development Council (EDC). In 2018, he assumed the role of President overseeing both the EDC and the Chamber, and by 2020, he transitioned to serve as the President/CEO of the Chamber, leading with unwavering commitment and passion.
Throughout his tenure, Tom’s leadership has brought significant achievements, including:
-
Assisting in the formation of the Community Improvement District (CID) for the Independence Events Center, a catalyst for regional growth and development.
-
Spearheading the creation of the Ennovation Center business incubator, providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-ups to thrive.
-
Facilitating the successful consolidation of the EDC under the Chamber umbrella, streamlining efforts to better serve the business community.
-
Leading the development of the Eastgate Business Park, which has become a hub for commerce and innovation.
Doug Cowan, Chair of the Independence Chamber Board, shared his thoughts on Tom’s retirement:
“I have had the privilege of working with Tom for the last 15 years in Independence, and Tom has always been in the middle of exciting projects and growth in Independence. He has helped facilitate commercial and residential growth, along with strong connections between members, and has worked collaboratively with the Chamber’s many investors and stakeholders. I speak for our entire Chamber board and membership when I say that we are in a better place as a community thanks to Tom Lesnak. Beginning in February, the Chamber Board of Directors will begin a process to select a new Chamber President, whose start date will be around July 1, 2025, and we expect Tom’s last day to be around the same time. My goal is for the process to be inclusive, transparent, and clear, and we will value the input and feedback of stakeholders throughout the process. We will keep the membership informed as a refined selection process is adopted by the Board of Directors.”
While Tom will be stepping back from his official role, he and his family plan to remain in Independence. In his free time, Tom looks forward to continuing his involvement in community projects and supporting the city he has grown to love.
The Chamber will announce details in the coming months about opportunities to honor Tom’s remarkable career and legacy. Please join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for his years of dedicated service and wishing him all the best in his retirement.
