KCI Airport Initiative Presentation
We hope you can join us for a presentation regarding the KC Single Terminal Airport initiative on Monday, August 28th at 4:00 pm.
Below are a few facts about this initiative to expand the KCI Single Terminal Airport:
- 11 million people moved through KCI last year. Imagine that many people through the 36 foot deep post-security area.
- The airline operations downstairs is out of space; there's nowhere to expand. In 2005, KCI had 2 more SWA departures than St Louis. Today St.Louis has 30 more than KCI and St. Louis has a higher cost per passenger. The airline wants to grow here, but they can't.
- When KCI was built, airplanes carried 80 people and the airport was completely wide open. Today's jets carry 145-175 people and, post 9-11, our gate areas are smaller. It's not a square footage issue, it's a layout issue.
- Lastly and most important, no matter what financing plan the City of Kansas City chooses, only those who fly will pay for a new terminal. There is not a property tax increase associated with this project.
